New Delhi: – In the elections held on Sunday, December 13th, at the Press Club of India (PCI) on Raisina Road, New Delhi, members of the Press Club elected a woman, Sangeeta Barua Pisharoty, who is the Principal Correspondent for The Hindu newspaper in Delhi, as their president for the first time in 68 years. It is noteworthy that Pisharoty and her panel of mostly new members achieved a resounding 21-0 victory, securing all positions on the managing committee.

Pisharoty secured a decisive victory with 1,019 votes, a significant achievement. This is especially noteworthy considering that some individuals, who considered themselves stalwarts of the Press Club, also contested the election but suffered a humiliating defeat.

The members of the Press Club of India (PCI) have proven, by electing Sangeeta Barua Pisharoty as their first female president, that this is an organization of educated, inclusive, and progressive-minded individuals. This marks a historic milestone in the club’s journey towards gender representation and inclusive leadership. While some narrow-minded and malicious journalists and lawyers attempt to create communal tension and disrupt the club’s atmosphere, often resorting to religious slogans during club events and elections, the club’s distinguishing feature is that educated and civilized members simply ignore such individuals, dismissing them as irrational. Even in this election, some individuals tried to create a tense atmosphere with religious slogans, but they were shown the door by the civilized and educated members.

In the elections held on December 13th, Pisharoty’s team achieved a landslide victory, winning all 21 positions for office bearers and the managing committee.

Pisharoty secured a decisive victory with 1,019 votes, while her opponents, Atul Mishra and Arun Sharma, received 129 and 89 votes respectively. For the post of General Secretary of the club, Afzal Imam secured 948 votes. Imam, who previously served as the Joint Secretary of the club, easily defeated his opponent Gyan Prakash, who received only 290 votes.

Jatin Gandhi emerged victorious as the candidate for Vice President, securing 1,029 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Prahlad Singh Rajput, by a margin of over 900 votes.

Aditi Rajput (Treasurer) and P.R. Sunil (Joint Secretary) were elected unopposed.

PCI Chief Election Commissioner MMC Sharma and his team announced the results in the evening at the PCI lawns in the presence of a large gathering of journalists.

In the elections for the 16-member managing committee, Neeraj Kumar topped the list with 932 votes, followed by Abhishek Kumar Singh (911), Jahnavi Sen (903), Ashok Kaushik (892), Kallol Bhattacharjee (882), Praveen Jain (878), Agraj Pratap Singh (865), Manoj Sharma (861), Nayanma Basu (851), P.B. Suresh (838), V.P. Pandey (833), Prem Bahukhandi (831), Sneha Bhura (829), Javed Akhtar (823), Rezaul Hasan Laskar (781), and Sunil Kumar (780). Following the announcement of the results, Pisharoty said, “This election reflects the collective faith of the members of the Press Club of India in our panel’s vision and our long-standing commitment to upholding the values of free, fair, and responsible journalism.”

Outgoing President Gautam Lahiri expressed his gratitude to the members of the Press Club of India for their trust and support. He emphasized that the new team would make the club even more inclusive, accountable, and relevant to the evolving challenges faced by journalists in India today. Outgoing PCI General Secretary Neeraj Thakur said, “The Press Club of India has served as a vital institution for journalists from India and abroad since its inception. The election of its first woman president is a powerful symbol of progress and reaffirms the club’s commitment to equality, diversity, and democratic values.”

नई दिल्ली: – प्रेस क्लब ऑफ इंडिया (PCI) रायसीना रोड नई दिली में पिछले दिनों रविवार 13 दिसंबर को हुए चुनावों में प्रेस क्लब के सदस्यों ने 68 वर्षों में पहली बार एक महिला संगीता बरुआ पिशारोटी जो द हिन्दू एखबार की दिल्ली में प्रिंसिपल क्रोस्पोंडेंट के पद पर आसीन हैं उनको अपना अध्यक्ष चुना है – ज्ञात हो कि संगीता बरुआ पिशारोटी के साथ साथ पैनल में लगभग नये सदस्यों ने प्रबंध समिति के पदों पर 21-0 से शानदार जीत हासिल कर अपनी एंट्री मारी है।

पिशारोटी ने 1,019 वोट हासिल करके निर्णायक जीत हासिल की, यह अपने आपमे मायने रखता। जबकि इस प्रेस क्लब में कुछ लोग अपने आपको प्रेस क्लब का धुरंधर मानते हुए यहां का चुनाव लड़ा था और उन्हें मुंह की खानी पड़ी।

प्रेस क्लब ऑफ इंडिया (PCI) के सदस्यों ने संगीता बरुआ पिशारोटी को अपनी पहली महिला अध्यक्ष चुन कर यह साबित कर दिया कि यहां शिक्षित और सर्वो सम्प्रदाय समावेशी तथा विकसित मानसिकता के लोग का संगठन है, जो क्लब की लैंगिक प्रतिनिधित्व और समावेशी नेतृत्व की दिशा में एक ऐतिहासिक मील का पत्थर है। जबकि कुछ दुराग्रही द्वेषी मानसिकता वाले छुटभैये पत्रकार और अधिवक्ता लोग सम्प्रदायिक तनाव पैदा कर इस क्लब के माहौल को बिगाड़ने के प्रयासरत हैं, इसी लिए लिये वैसे लोग क्लब के किसी भी कार्यक्रम या चुनाव में अक्सरहां धार्मिक नारा लगाया कर माहौल को खराब करने की कोशिश करते रहते हैं। परन्तु इस क्लब की विशेषता है कि ऐसे लोगों को पागल कह कर सभ्य शिक्षित लोग किनाराकशी कर लेते हैं। इस चुनाव में भी कुछ लोगोने धार्मिक नारा लगाया कर माहौल को गरमाने की कोशिश की लेकिन उन्हें सभ्य और शिक्षित सदस्यों ने बाहर का रास्ता दिखा दिया।

बहरहाल – 13 दिसंबर को हुए चुनावों में पिशारोटी की टीम ने सभी पदाधिकारियों और प्रबंध समिति के पदों पर 21-0 से शानदार जीत हासिल की।

पिशारोटी ने 1,019 वोट हासिल करके निर्णायक जीत हासिल की, जबकि उनके प्रतिद्वंद्वी अतुल मिश्रा और अरुण शर्मा को क्रमशः 129 और 89 वोट मिले। इस क्लब के महासचिव पद के लिए, अफजल इमाम ने 948 वोट हासिल किए, इमाम इससे पहले इस क्लब के संयुक्त सचिव पद पर थे, उन्होंने अपने प्रतिद्वंदी ज्ञान प्रकाश को आसानी से हरा दिया, ज्ञान प्रकाश को मात्र 290 वोट मिले।

जतिन गांधी ने 1,029 वोट हासिल करके उपाध्यक्ष पद के उम्मीदवार के रूप में विजयी हुए, और अपने अगले प्रतिद्वंद्वी प्रहलाद सिंह राजपूत को 900 से अधिक वोटों के अंतर से हराया।

अदिति राजपूत (कोषाध्यक्ष) और पीआर सुनील (संयुक्त सचिव) निर्विरोध चुने गए।

PCI के मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त एमएमसी शर्मा और उनकी टीम ने शाम को PCI लॉन में पत्रकारों की भरी सभा में परिणाम घोषित किया।

16 सदस्यीय प्रबंध समिति के चुनावों में, नीरज कुमार 932 वोटों के साथ सूची में सबसे ऊपर रहे, उसके बाद अभिषेक कुमार सिंह (911), जाह्नवी सेन (903), अशोक कौशिक (892), कल्लोल भट्टाचार्जी (882), प्रवीण जैन (878), अग्रज प्रताप सिंह (865), मनोज शर्मा (861), नयनमा बसु (851), पीबी सुरेश (838), वीपी पांडे (833), प्रेम बहुखंडी (831), स्नेहा भूरा (829), जावेद अख्तर (823), रेजाउल हसन लस्कर (781), और सुनील कुमार (780) रहे। नतीजे की घोषणा के बाद पिशारोटी ने कहा, “यह चुनाव हमारे पैनल के विज़न और आज़ाद, निष्पक्ष और ज़िम्मेदार पत्रकारिता के मूल्यों को बनाए रखने की हमारी लंबे समय से चली आ रही प्रतिबद्धता में प्रेस क्लब ऑफ़ इंडिया के सदस्यों के सामूहिक विश्वास को दिखाता है।”

निवर्तमान अध्यक्ष गौतम लाहिड़ी ने प्रेस क्लब ऑफ़ इंडिया के सदस्यों का उनके भरोसे और समर्थन के लिए आभार व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि नई टीम क्लब को और ज़्यादा समावेशी, जवाबदेह और भारत में आज पत्रकारों के सामने आने वाली बदलती चुनौतियों के लिए प्रासंगिक बनाएगी।

PCI के निवर्तमान महासचिव नीरज ठाकुर ने कहा, “प्रेस क्लब ऑफ़ इंडिया ने अपनी स्थापना के बाद से देश और विदेश के पत्रकारों के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण संस्था के रूप में काम किया है। इसकी पहली महिला अध्यक्ष का चुनाव प्रगति का एक शक्तिशाली प्रतीक है और समानता, विविधता और लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों के प्रति क्लब के समर्पण की पुष्टि करता है।”
